Online Cake Decorating Classes for wedding cake designers

Building Your Wedding Cake Portfolio

Sounds like you?

-> You are not booking your ideal client because your portfolio is weak. You need to create modern designs to elevate your style.
-> You don’t have many relationships with wedding industry professionals?

If you said “yes” to any of these questions – book a styled photoshoot. Reach out to your local event planners, florists, and photographers and offer to make a cake.

What is a Styled Photoshoot?

A Styled photoshoot is a wedding arrangement created by a team of wedding vendors. It is a collaboration where everyone provides their services for free and in exchange for images and mutual promotion.

Most of the time styled photoshoots are an imitation of the wedding and could include a full wedding day or just specific aspects, such as ceremony, table set up, couple portraits, interiors, etc.

The biggest benefit of a styled photoshoot is the stress level is a lot lower than at an actual wedding

It can also be a great opportunity to create new images of products, promote a venue, and experiment with new wedding styles.

For example, our inspiration board looked like this:
STYLED SHOOT 5 23 22 00 00
Here are a few questions to ask before accepting the invitation:

  1. Have you chosen a dress? (Ask for photos/links)
  2. Are we going to have a model?
  3. Who are the other vendors who have fully committed?
  4. Will you be submitting this photoshoot to any publications? If yes, where?
  5. How much time I will have to finish the cake on-site before the photoshoot?
  6. Who is the photographer?
  7. What is the accent metal (silver or gold)?
It is that simple! No more excuses to start building your dream cake business.

Have you ever participated in a styled photoshoot?

And, if you want to take a behind the scene look at the process, I filmed a little vlog for my Youtube! In THIS video I’m taking you with me to Downtown Chicago for a styled photo shoot we did in Ambassador Hotel. You will learn how to pack a cake, set it up at the venue, what to bring with you and why!

WHAT IS WAFER PAPER?

Wafer paper is an edible paper for cake decorating, typically starch-based. It is vegan, gluten-free, and free from most allergens. It closely resembles printer paper in texture, but it is edible and could be manipulated into beautiful florals and used for contemporary cake designs. Wafer Paper is also called Rice paper and the difference is the main ingredient.

Ingredients: potato starch (or rice starch), water, and vegetable oil.

It’s safe to eat and the flavor is very subtle — so it won’t interfere with what’s going on in your cake. You can condition wafer paper in all kinds of ways – create flowers and textures, so it’s so great for cake decorating.

What wafer paper should you buy? Here you can learn more about different grades of wafer paper.

STORAGE

Keep wafer paper in a clean Ziplock bag and store in a cool, dry place. Wafer paper can last quite some time (around 2 or 3 years on average) if stored correctly.

If your wafer paper is dry and crackly, watch this tutorial on how to fix it.

HOW TO START WITH WAFER PAPER?

My advice is always – just start TODAY. Take your wafer paper, and a pair of sharp scissors and watch any of my Youtube tutorials – it’s free.
