Have you ever bought a cake decorating tool, because your friend swears by it? Or, maybe, you chose the wafer paper I use?
It is called word-of-mouth marketing and it is one of the best ways to increase sales for cake designers. And I’m talking about networking with other professionals in the wedding industry, not just potential clients.
There are tree ways you can use this in your business:
1. Create cakes that are worth talking about. You do not have to be on social media, but you have to be seen and your cakes should represent your style. Even if your followers (or website visitors) are not your potential clients, they might share your cakes with their friends and refer them to you. Nowadays, word-of-mouth marketing strategy is the most efficient way to boost your social media engagement. And it’s free!
2. Ask for reviews and testimonials. Be proactive! Don’t wait and expect people to know, that you need their support. Encourage satisfied customers to leave positive reviews about their experiences on social media, via email, or on your website. Also, while asking to leave you a review, make sure to address any unhappy customers as quickly as possible to promote good customer service and protect your brand reputation.
3. Collect used generated content – it is a fancy way to say “Follow your customers on social and save posts then they share your cakes”. Give your clients clear instructions on how they can tag you on social media, offer a gift with the next order, and if they share, create a hashtag they can use to spread the love! And, if you decide to use Google reviews, make it easy for your customers to give you that feedback.
And, if you are new to the cake business, I would suggest you build stronger relationships with other industry professionals to get more word-of-mouth referrals. You can participate in a styled photoshoot, join wedding vendor groups on Facebook, and reach out to event planners to network with other professionals in the industry.
You can learn more about that here.
Don’t be shy! Everyone benefits from good referrals.
So there you have it! Have a full calendar this wedding season is all about providing excellent customer service, showcasing your beautiful cakes and expertise, and building relationships with your colleagues.
