How to Store Gumpaste and Wafer Flowers
Wafer and Gumpaste flowers are delicate pieces of art and today I’m going to show you how to keep them fresh and store them until needed. Sugar or Wafer flowers can be kept keep for several years as long as they are stored safely and away from direct sunlight and moisture.
5 steps to store your gumpaste and wafer flowers forever:
1. Know your humidity.
I use this Humidity Gauge Monitor
2. Choose your container. A plastic storage container or Tupperware works perfectly. If you live in a very humid area, choose an airtight container to protect flowers from excessive moisture.
3. Add filler – I use packing peanuts, but crinkled paper or tissue would work as well.
4. *Secret ingredient* Place a few Silica Gel Packs in the container with flowers, just make sure to choose food-grade packets. I really like this Reusable Silica Gel Packs.
5. Keep away from direct sunlight!
I have some flowers that I kept for years, traveled across the country, and made way ahead. Following these rules will help you work on your flowers in advance or even ship them to your client. (I take a small number of commotions for wafer paper flowers and that is the exact method I use to pack flowers for shipping, just more packing peanuts and I fix flowers to a box).
