Wafer Paper Bow Topper
Do you ever find yourself in a situation when you need to make a cake design but you have no idea where to start? Or you are making a cake and it is getting late at night and creativity just isn’t there?
I have a tutorial for you!
This Wafer Paper Bow Cake Topper is easy to make, very versatile and takes only 20 minutes from start to finish!
And I sharing my tips on how to safely put wafer paper decorations in the fridge:
- Generally, everything below 65% should not cause any wilting, however, I encourage you to try and test for yourself.
- Know your humidity! I use this Humidity Gauge and it’s been a gamechanger. I can place it in my fridge or keep it in my studio to know when my humidity is too high (above 65%).
- Make wafer paper flowers in advance (at least 3-5 days) and let them dry completely.
- If you are in a very humid environment and using my AC Tonic conditioner recipe — use less glycerin, because it attracts moisture from the air and can soften wafer paper.
- Also, you can be more generous with cornstarch, it will help wafer paper to stay dry (just keep in mind, that would make it brittle).
- I would not recommend leaving wafer paper flowers on a buttercream cake overnight if you are not sure about the humidity level.
- I store my flowers in a box with lots of silica gel packets (I use this food-grade brand) and assemble them at the venue.

Hi lovely,
Wanted to ask you about wafer paper, I needed to make wafer paper web and ruffles to attach to a cake, do you recommend making them in advance as the cake would need to be refrigerated overnight before collection. Also the best way to attach wafer paper to buttercream cake if you can also guide me through this please. Thanks heaps
Yes, you can make wafer paper decorations in advance.
How humid your fridge is?
If you are worrying about your cake decorations melting – put it in a cardboard box and in the fridge, so the condensation will be absorbed by the box.
