How to Create Wafer Paper Clematis Step-by-Step
Step 1: Cut Your Wafer Paper Petals
Start by folding your wafer paper and cutting out the petals using a template. Youâll need four petals for each flower. Save your scraps for making wafer paper glue.
Step 2: Wire the Petals
Place a thin layer of wafer paper glue on each petal and sandwich a 28-gauge wire between layers. Let the petals dry while you prepare the flower’s center.
Step 3: Create the Flowerâs Stamen
Cut a small piece of wafer paper for the stamen, paint it with yellow gel color, and gently fringe the edges. Attach this to a 22-gauge wire to form the flower’s center.
Step 4: Shape and Color the Petals
Mix violet and dusty rose gel colors to create a soft purple hue. Paint both sides of your petals and shape them using a Drezden tool. Add texture by pressing the petals into a veiner.
Step 5: Assemble the Flower
Attach the stamen to the center of the flower, then add each petal, using floral tape to secure them in place. Adjust the petals to create a natural look, bending and shaping the wires as needed.
Step 6: Create Leaves and Tendrils
Cut and color wafer paper leaves using juniper green gel color. Attach the leaves to floral wires, and create delicate tendrils by twisting thin strips of wafer paper around the wire.
