How to Create Wafer Paper Cosmos Flowers Step-by-Step
Step 1: Prepare the Petals
Begin by downloading the template and cutting out eight petal shapes from wafer paper.
Once you have your petals cut out, wire them using 28 gauge white wire and wafer paper glue. Apply the glue to the back side of each petal and attach the wire. Allow the wired petals to dry completely before moving on.
Step 2: Condition and Shape the Petals
After the petals are dry, prepare your conditioning mixture by combining glycerin-based conditioner with maroon airbrush color to achieve a pink hue. Apply this mixture to the bumpy side of each petal.
Use a peony petal veiner and cornstarch to shape the petals and prevent them from sticking. Let the conditioned petals dry thoroughly.
Step 3: Create the Flower Center
For the flower center, use 20 gauge wire to create a hook. Secure a loop of thread around the hook to form the stamens. Fluff and cut the thread to achieve the desired stamen effect.
Dust the stamens with a combination of hot pink and chocolate petal dust. Add pollen using a mixture of semolina flour and yellow petal dust, applying it with confectioner’s glaze.
Step 4: Assemble the Flower
Attach the petals to the flower center using light green floral tape. Layer the petals to create a realistic bloom shape. Adjust the petals as needed to add movement and dimension to your cosmos flower.
