How to make flexible edible crinoline lace for cake decorating?
Easier than you think!
I’m beyond excited to share with you how to make flexible Crinoline Tulle using wafer paper.
This ethereal lace is super trendy right now and can be used on any design, especially if you need to design a wedding cake.
I think that the first inventors of this lace are Ekats and Fleurdelys.atelier, so check those ladies out – they are making amazing art with wafer paper. I’m sharing my way of creating this crinoline lace and I hope you’ll give it a try.
WAFER PAPER CRINOLINE TULLE RECIPE:
- 1 sheet of wafer paper AD-grade or 1.5 sheet of wafer paper 0-grade (about 6 gr)
- 100 ml cold water
You will need:
- Wafer Paper (I use 0.27mm, but any thin wafer paper would work, especially if you have any dry or scrap pieces)
– Regular Wafer Paper
– Premium Wafer Paper - Water
- Color of your choice (I use petal dust, but gel or airbrush would work the same) – The Sugar art Elite Cecylia Rose
– The Sugar Art Brilliant Sparkle - Nonstick pan (clean and dry)
– Mueller HealthyStone 12-Inch Fry Pan - Piping gel (you can just clear gel, water or corn syrup, something sticky)
– Wilton Clear Piping Gel - Heatproof silicone spatula
- Blender or small food processor
– I use a smoothie blender
In this video I’m showing you step-by-step how to prepare the mixture and make your own crinoline lace.
Hope you give it a try and share on social media! I’m excited to see your cake.

And to assemble this pieces on a cake, I use piping gel.

I thank God for your life, with you I learned, what in my country I could not.
I am very grateful to God and to you. Thank you very much for what you teach.
Спасибо Анна!
Can this wafer paper be appplied on creamy coverture like buttercream or chantily?
Fat-based buttercream should be fine, but if you are worrying about the humidity, you can cover the back side of this lace with melter cocoa butter or melted chocolate
how should these be stored?
I keep mine in a Ziploc bag between layers of wax paper
