Wafer Paper is easy and fun to work with, but sometimes it looks hard because you do not know where to start with wafer paper.
In this video tutorial, you will learn my tips and tricks on how to color and shape wafer paper without any veiners to create this textural look.
How to make wafer paper flowers for cake decorating:
- Using 5-petal rose cutter as a template, cut out wafer paper flower. You can use craft punches or a cutting machine to make a variety of wafer paper flowers.
- Mix AC Tonic (Astashkina Cakes Wafer Paper conditioner) with a tiny amount of red food gel color in a fine mist spray bottle. Test the color on a paper towel and adjust intensity.
- Spray this mixture on wafer paper flower cut out. It should become damp, but not wet. For light application, I use only one spritz of the mixture.
- Using dry fluffy brush, add enough cornstarch to prevent wafer paper from melting and curling up. You should have enough cornstarch, so wafer paper does not stick to itself.
- While wafer paper flower is still soft and pliable, shape and manipulate petals. Form the flower and let it dry in a cupped petal former.
- Using different sizes of 5-petal rose cutters as a template, make a variety of flowers. Assemble a few layers together with piping gel or a touch of water.
- To add visual interest and create paper-like flowers, add dots and marks to the flower using a brown food marker. Look for Scrapbooking flowers to find inspiration for this application.
- Apply a small amount of piping gel in the middle of the flower and attach a large pearl sixlet or a few smaller sugar pearls.
Hope you give it a try and share it on social media! I’m excited to see your cakes!
